Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA, OTA) in Home Health is responsible for providing occupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore them to their fullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs duties in accordance with policies and procedures and the established plan of care.

  • Follow all state-specific laws governing the provision of occupational therapy in home care, adhering strictly to treatment plans defined by the supervising OT.
  • Instruct and assist patients in evidence-based treatments within the scope of practice for occupational therapy assistants and according to state laws.
  • Observe, record, and report to the supervising OT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in condition. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Instruct patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members in therapy-related areas within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant.
Education and Experience

License Requirements

  • Current OTA licensure in the state of Indiana
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation

Additional State Requirements

  • Must be certified by a national therapy association
