PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Home Equity Specialist position exists to educate and consult with current and potential members on home equity and second mortgage opportunities. This position is responsible for carrying out the loan process from start to finish while recommending credit union products and services that best fit member needs and provide excellent service.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 1. Works directly with our mortgage team to meet department goals.
  2. 2. Complete and analyze applications, financial status, credit history and collateral securities to make educated loan decisions.
  3. 3. Maintain knowledge of and comply with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to first, second, and secondary mortgage loans, and assist with home appraisals.
  4. 4. Process loan applications from start to finish and cross sell credit union products and services.
  5. 5. Interview members in person, on the phone, or over the internet complete loan applications, obtain credit reports and other required documentation as needed.
  6. 6. Respond to member and staff questions in person, on the phone, or over the internet in a professional, efficient, and friendly manner.
  7. 7. Actively and thoughtfully explain reasons for denials and council members on financial options.
  8. 8. Prioritize assignments and organize work efficiently.
  9. 9. Maintain knowledge of equity and mortgage products and services and explain their features, terms, and benefits to recommend the best option suited for the member’s needs. Seeks ongoing learning opportunities within the mortgage industry.
  10. 10. Actively and thoughtfully communicating with their supervisor, planning their goals and development, taking accountability for their actions, and striving for excellence
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 11. Promote products and services.
  2. 12. Attend all meetings as required.
  3. 13. Maintain clean and professional work area and appearance.
  4. 14. Maintain positive public relations and promote credit union within the community.
  5. 15. Complete educational programs as required.
  6. 16. Perform the following commitments of service to each and every member at all times:
    • a. Make a good first impression, be dressed professionally and greet people with a smile and a firm handshake.
    • b. Keep a smile in my voice as well as on my face.
    • c. Answer the telephone by the third ring.
    • d. Call people by name and thank them.
    • e. Give people my full and undivided attention; focus on the person face to face and on the telephone.
    • f. Take responsibility for solving the individual's problem instead of referring it to someone else.
    • g. Deliver on commitments of action(s) to be taken, so excuses won't be necessary.
    • h. Follow through on necessary action(s) to be sure the problem is solved.
    • i. Know that what's important is not only who or what created the problem but how the problem can be corrected.
    • j. Protect confidential information.

Qualifications: REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of lending experience
  • 1+ years of home mortgage/equity lending experience preferred
  • Maintain active NMLS enrollment.
  • Maintain an active notary license.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Pleasant outgoing personality.
  • Able to run a 10 key calculator.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Thorough knowledge of Credit Consumer laws.
  • Knowledge of all laws and regulations regarding this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

The following physical activities will be required on a day-to-day basis: climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, walking, pulling, fingering, feeling, hearing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, standing, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, repetitive motions.

HUMAN RELATION SKILLS NEEDED

The ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, and contacts outside of the credit union in a polite, courteous timely, accurate and efficient manner. Patience in dealing with a difficult member.
