Job summary

Meals on Wheels People, Inc. in Tigard, OR is seeking an on-call program assistant to support meal delivery coordination and volunteer engagement. You will manage routes, maintain participant records, and assist with hunger relief services under supervision.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Food Handler’s Certification or ability to obtain within two weeks from date of hire.
• Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and transportation required.
• CPR certified or ability to obtain within 18 months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Ensure on-time delivery of meals to home-bound participants following Meals on Wheels People standards.
• Schedule volunteer drivers daily and maintain accurate route books.
• Follow up with participants if a driver is unable to deliver a meal.
• Manage participant care, including reassessments, change tracking, and record maintenance.
• Assist Site Manager in responsive hunger relief services, including supplemental meals, partnerships, contracts, ethnic meals, and programming for isolation.
• Aid in screening, registration, and training of volunteers.
• Maintain and update client and volunteer information in data management systems.
• Complete assigned administrative tasks.
• Support Meals on Wheels People events and fundraising initiatives.
• Participate in in-service training and required meetings.
• Uphold mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of Meals on Wheels People, Inc.

Skills, Abilities & Experience

• Proven experience in effectively manage, engage and retain volunteers.
• Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Asian or African languages strongly preferred.
• Excellent organizational, record keeping, time management and multi-tasking skills including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes.
• Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations including minority, low income and persons with disabilities.
• Strong ability to problem solve and implement solutions.
• Proficient in computer applications and MS Office suite.
• Ability to quickly learn new computer programs; experience with client data management systems a plus

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Fast paced, with significant people interaction.
• Ability to repetitively move 25lbs regularly and up to 50lbs; routinely moves cooler and cooler bags from one location to another and from various heights in preparation of and for the completion of meal delivery; ability to ascend stairs and move around on city sidewalks.
• Sitting for short periods of time and typing.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers required for operation of general office equipment.
• Must successfully complete and pass Meals on Wheels People pre-employment screening

Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.
