Team Leaders, Care Buddys, HomeCare Workers, Home Care Assistants and Home Care Support Workers

in the South & East Belfast, Carryduff, Bangor, Newtownards and Comber Areas

Job Role and Description

Reports to: Registered Manager

Purpose of role: To support customers with all aspects of their day-to-day living, enabling them to enjoy the best possible quality of life. Providing care and support is both challenging and rewarding. You will mainly work alone with the customer in their home. Compassion, good communication skills, and a calm, caring manner are essential for this important role in our company.

Key responsibility: Safely provide compassionate, person-centred care that respects individual needs and wishes. Respect customers' choices and promote their dignity at all times.

You may be the only person the customer sees over a period, so it is essential to report any changes or concerns promptly to your line manager. You should know when to seek help to ensure customer safety and well-being.

Duties include:

  • Care and support: Deliver non-discriminatory care that values each customer's unique qualities. Listen carefully and observe how they prefer their care to be delivered. Support their independence and decision-making.

Follow care plans, which may include:

  • Personal care (showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, continence care, teeth, and dentures)
  • Medicines management (encouraging, reminding, assisting, ordering prescriptions, disposing of medicines)
  • Eating and drinking support (planning, encouragement, shopping, preparing, serving, cleaning)
  • Use of aids and equipment (walking frames, wheelchairs, hearing aids, etc.)
  • Household chores (cleaning, laundry, making beds)
  • Social and recreational activities (answering the door, phone, writing, outings, hobbies)
  • Supporting customers through illness, end-of-life care, hospital appointments, liaising with health professionals and families

Recording and reporting: Document all relevant information, including care provided, changes in condition, equipment issues, emergencies, safeguarding concerns, and contact with families or professionals. Ensure all information is kept secure and confidential.

Teamwork: Adhere to AI HOMECARE GROUP policies, participate in meetings, and attend training and development sessions.

This list is not exhaustive; additional duties may be required. Full training will be provided in line with regulatory standards.

Essential criteria:

  • Personal attributes: Caring, compassionate, respectful, self-motivated, reliable, good hygiene, physically fit, understanding of care needs, respect for rights and confidentiality.
  • Experience and skills: Good communication, ability to work independently and as part of a team, organizational skills, numeracy, record-keeping, adherence to policies.

Additional requirements: Respect for rights, willingness to train, pass a satisfactory Access NI check (fee applies), valid driver’s license with insurance and no more than 6 points.

Desirable criteria: NVQ/QCF Level 2 or equivalent, previous care experience, safeguarding knowledge, health and safety awareness, flexible approach.
