About The Joe Martin ALS Foundation

The Joe Martin ALS Foundation’s (JMALSF) mission is to empower families as they face the challenge of living actively with ALS by providing home care and other services at no cost. Founded in 2007 by the friends and family of Joe Martin, who lived with ALS for 12 years, our organization realizes his vision to provide people with ALS (PALS) a resource for support and care to live actively with ALS. We believe that, with the help of family and a caring community, people with ALS can live with purpose, joy, and hope. This philosophy drives us to empower families with the knowledge and tools to navigate this progressive disease.

Our services include showering, dressing, range of motion and exercise, wheelchair accessible transportation, and caregiver training. Our staff has over 20 years’ experience in caring for people with ALS (PALS) and also serves as a resource to answer caregiving questions.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: JMALSF is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, compassionate, and results-driven self-starter with caregiving experience to provide home care for people with ALS (PALS) in the Charlotte metropolitan area. This person will perform ADLs, range of motion, and help families plan for living actively with ALS.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Showering, toileting, dressing
  2. Perform Range of Motion (ROM) exercises
  3. Help family caregivers by training them to use safe caregiving methods
  4. Help PALS and their caregivers navigate ALS
  5. Communicate client needs to the JMALSF President
  6. Facilitate communication between PALS and the local ALS clinic
  7. Represent The Joe Martin ALS Foundation at external meetings, events, and programs
  8. Seek opportunities for professional development
  9. Develop and maintain knowledge of best practices in caregiving
  10. Fill other duties as assigned

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time
  • Drive to client homes to provide home care

Desired Qualifications:

  • A positive attitude, collaborative spirit, and desire to be a part of a team
  • Driver’s license and personal transportation
  • Experience in caregiving
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Sensitivity to, compassion for, and ability to work with people with physical disabilities

Compensation:

The Joe Martin ALS Foundation offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with anticipated duties and responsibilities, including paid vacation and 8 holidays.
