Job summary

Mass General Brigham in Boston is seeking a non-MD, independently licensed acupuncturist to join Home Base program, working halftime across intensive programs and outpatient clinic.

The role leads group acupuncture sessions, educates patients on benefits, provides individual acupuncture as needed, and participates in ongoing training to qualify for Battlefield Acupuncture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field is required/preferred.
  • Acupuncturist license in the state is required.
  • BLS certification from various issuers preferred.
  • 2–3 years of acupuncture experience in healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a group acupuncture program.
  • Accept referrals and schedule treatments per hospital rules.
  • Document patient treatments in records.
  • Market acupuncture services via referrals and community events.

Summary
Promotes, maintains, and restores patient health by conducting physical examinations, tests, and interviews; observing patient; analyzing treatment options based on the meridian system, special and extra loci, and auriculotherapy; determining appropriate treatments to achieve balance; applying needling techniques, moxibustion, electroacupuncture, and acupressure.

Essential Functions
  • Develop a group acupuncture program
  • Accept referrals from physicians either in writing or orally. Schedule treatment and/or consults in accordance with Hospital regulations and guidelines.
  • Documents patient treatments by charting in records.
  • Contributes to acupuncture and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Acupuncture services are marketed with referral sources and at community events to increase awareness and understanding of this intervention.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects organization operations by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s Degree Related Field of Study required or Master’s Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Acupuncturist [State License] - required

Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Various Issuers preferred

Experience
experience practicing acupuncture 2-3 years required and experience providing acupuncture in a healthcare setting such as a hospital, community health center, pain clinic or other integrative health care setting 2-3 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of acupuncture theory, anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to make appropriate judgments of the patient to provide safe acupuncture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served on assigned units.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with varied populations.
  • Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.
  • High level of service delivery Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
  • Must carry professional liability insurance.

Home Base is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds – including post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, co-occurring substance use disorder, family relationship challenges and other issues associated with military service – for Veterans of all eras, service members, military families and families of the fallen through world‑class clinical care, wellness, education, and research.

Home Base is seeking a non-MD, independently licensed acupuncturist to work halftime across our intensive programs and outpatient clinic. Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading group acupuncture sessions for groups ranging from 6-14 people.
  • Provide educational content about the benefits of acupuncture and what to expect during interventions.
  • As indicated, providing individual acupuncture services.
  • Participating in additional training, if needed, to ensure qualification for providing group/Battlefield Acupuncture.
  • Advising on further areas for growth of acupuncture, as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as indicated by leadership.
