Position Overview:

As a Companion Caregiver, you’ll provide essential support and meaningful companionship to clients living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. By fostering a safe and supportive home environment, you’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing their quality of life and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage clients in stimulating and meaningful activities to promote emotional and cognitive well-being.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs.
  • Perform light housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean-living space.
  • Assist with mobility and provide transportation to medical appointments, errands, or social outings.
  • Monitor and document health changes, sharing updates with the care team.
  • Follow personalized care plans to address the unique needs of each client.

Qualifications:

  • Proven caregiving experience, particularly with Dementia and Alzheimer’s clients.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (preferred but not required if travel isn’t necessary).
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends.
  • Exceptional patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
  • Providing companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
  • Providing compassionate, patient hands-on personal care support for ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers.
  • Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
  • Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
  • Reminding clients to take their medications.
  • Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine).
  • Assisting clients in preparing meals.
  • Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.
Qualifications

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective. Strong candidates possess:

  • A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
  • An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college degrees or those currently attending colleges or graduate schools.
  • Deep empathy and patience.
  • Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
