Heart of the Valley YMCA in Madison, AL is seeking dedicated lifeguards for daytime shifts. This role offers weekday availability from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM to supervise the pool area and uphold the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Ideal candidates will be at least 16 years old and hold ARC lifeguard certification with CPR, AED, and First Aid. Prior aquatic facility management experience is preferred, with a focus on vigilance, safety, and member service.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • Experience in aquatic facility management and pool operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to employees, volunteers and the community.
  • Serve in an advisory capacity to ensure a safe aquatic environment is maintained at the YMCA aquatic facility.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Maintain current adult, infant and child CPR, AED and Lifesaving certifications.
  • Ensure that all swim programs and classes are carried out according to Heart of the Valley YMCA Association standards.
  • Ensure that all chemicals are balanced and maintained on a regular basis.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Perform routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Branch Director or Aquatics Director.

Job Location: Madison, AL 35758 Salary Range: $13.00 - $15.00 Hourly The Hogan Family YMCA is seeking dedicated, safety-focused lifeguards to support our mission of strengthening community through healthy living and youth development. This daytime position is perfect for individuals with consistent weekday availability who want to make a positive impact on members of all ages. Lifeguards in this role must have availability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, providing vigilant supervision, ensuring a safe and welcoming aquatics environment, and exemplifying the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires the individual to perform a broad range of activities and duties needing full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and hand and eye coordination. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires seated work at a desk, including use of a computer, and the ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. It also requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

QualificationsEXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted YMCA programs and YMCA management practices and principles.
  • Ability to provide leadership to all staff and volunteers associated with the YMCA.
  • Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.
  • Ability to interpret as well as adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 16years old.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR, AED, Emergency Oxygenand First Aid.
  • Experience in aquatic facility management and pool operations is preferred.
