Job summary

SCP Health is seeking a detail‑oriented HM PreCoding Specialist. You will maintain production goals in the PreCoding workflow, verify documents in the charge entry application and EMR, and support system upgrades.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Consistently maintain established production goals while meeting or exceeding defined quality standards throughout the PreCoding process.
  • Identify and trend results and processes to develop and maintain a standardized PreCoding workflow and cadence.
  • Participate in system testing as needed to support system, application upgrades, and all processes and procedures.
  • Document verification using approved notation standards within the charge entry application and Hospital EMR.
  • Promote a team environment demonstrating our core values to achieve all departmental goals and supporting individual professional development.
  • Actively participate in meetings and educational programs to improve both individual and team quality.
  • Comply with HIPAA requirements in relation to all chart activities.

EDUCATION (Required and/or preferred)

High school diploma or equivalent

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

The HM PreCoding Specialist works independently under general supervision while adhering to established policies, procedures, and production standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 years of experience in a medical (billing preferably) and or revenue cycle environment.
  • Knowledge of EMR documentation systems preferred.
CONTACTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE ORGANIZATION

Frequent contact, meetings, and collaboration with training and auditing teams.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Works independently, typically a 40‑hour work week to include overtime as required.
  • Continuous sitting.
  • Psychological stress/pressure levels may be moderate to high.
  • Frequent oral & written communication and listening skills.
  • Extensive computer use.
  • The job requires a high level of mental awareness and concentration ability.

Pay Range: 18.00 - 26.00 USD per hour. This range represents the anticipated base salary for this role. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
