Job summary

Huhtamaki, located in California, seeks a production machine operator to operate assigned equipment in the Convocan department, following GMP and safety standards to meet production schedules.

You will load/unload, perform start/stop, clear jams, run quality checks, and record data in PI and NWA. You will also assist with rolls and tool changes, require basic math and reading specifications, and maintain a safe, clean work area; lifting up to 35 lbs and standing continuously.

It’s every one of us working together.We offer a place where you can feel safe, be supported, and make an impact so we can all focus on the future together.PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION OF JOBO perate all assigned machines in Convocan department and following safety standards, production schedule requirements, and Huhtamaki and customer specification requirements.RESPONSABILITIESWork safely at all times following Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), safe work practice policies and procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)Load and unload unwind standsComplete cold start up and shut down procedures (start and stop the machine and clear jams without assistance)Cleans accumulators and trenchesRegulates machine by setting and adjusting controls to department condition sheetsRuns machines adhering to department standardsPerforms general machine adjustments as described in the training syllabusTroubleshoots and checks machine for malfunctions and calls for maintenance when needed(i.e. – Air leaks, oil leaks, the machine running hot and making unusual sounds, seam variation, bonding issue, tube length adjustments, ring ID)Interprets shop order details and instructionsVerifies and moves required material to work centersFollows mixed copy proceduresPerforms quality checks and enter data into NWA systemAssist the packer with changing rolls, dumping rings and assisting with flavor and size changesProperly dismantles machinery and equipment when performing knife changesRecords production/downtime data accurately in PI and BPCS systemPerforms shift change and order change without assistancePerforms daily machine clean upMaintains department cleanliness to SQF (Safe Quality Standards) standardsMaintains correct and sufficient material on the floor at all timesParticipates in Lean Events as scheduledAble to perform tasks on multiple machines at one timeRebuild knife assemblies and remove/replace on cuttersChanges winding belts and doctor blade for glue applicationAssist during mechanical PMPerforms weekly Clean up/PMPerforms Annual Clean upAssist packer with the troubleshooting cover machineWhen needed reject poor quality material by filling out proper rejection forms for QAUses measuring instruments while performing job functionsAdditional duties in the department as assignedCarries out environmental compliance tasks, as appropriate to the position.SUPERVISORY RESPONSABILITIESThis position has no supervisory responsibilityEDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :High School Diploma or GED preferredSKILLS/QUALIFICATIONSMust have a minimum of 1 year of experience in the operation of industrial machinery (experience performing adjustments and repairs in a production environment preferred)Should posses mechanical aptitude abilitiesUnderstand and be able to read product specifications is highly desired.Ability to read/write in English; capable of acting to written or verbal instructionBasic understanding of math concept to complete production reporting requirementsMust possess basic computer skills for use of systems: BPCS, TWI, Pi, Filemaker and NWA softwareShould have good communication, problem solving and decision making skillsGood knowledge of small hand tools and how to use them correctlyGeneral understanding of glue and wax application is desiredGood knowledge about cover machines is desiredGeneral understanding of safety best practices, procedures and practicesPHYSICAL DEMANDSNote: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsMust be able to work any shift and overtime as required by production demands.Must be able to identify slight color variations.Must be able to lift a minimum of 35lbs to shoulder height.Must be able to climb stairs occasionally to clear jams from trim system/ accumulators.Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally.Must be able to stand and walk 100% of working time.Lift empty pallet weighing up to 50 lbs, push rolls weighing up to 70 lbsENVIRONMENTWill spend 100% (excluding breaks and lunch time) of time on the manufacturing floor with moderate noise levels and different ambient temperatures.
