Job summary

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's HLA Lab seeks a Technical Specialist to manage daily technical and administrative functions within the HLA section, ensuring policy compliance and high-quality testing. You will supervise test performance and contribute to process improvements while supporting clinical research and regulatory readiness.

A BS in MLS and 5+ years in histocompatibility testing are required; an MS is preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Laboratory Science or related field; US equivalent accepted
• 2+ years of Clinical Lab Experience
• Minimum 5 years of histocompatibility testing experience
• CHS certification required within the 1st year of employment
• ASCP certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Manages daily technical and administrative functions of the laboratory section
• Ensures compliance with institutional and lab policies and procedures
• Monitors pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of test systems
• Oversees quality control/quality improvement programs
• Develops and validates new assays as assigned
• Oversees proficiency testing and regulatory documentation
• Provides teaching and supervision to residents and students
• Maintains competency in all technical aspects of the section
• Ensures safety and regulatory compliance across the lab
