Job Title: Software Engineer – HL7
Location: Fully Remote
Employment Type: 6-Month Contract (with potential to convert to full-time)
Work Hours: 9 AM ET daily stand-up; flexible for other time zones

About the Role

Our client’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) team is seeking a Software Engineer with strong expertise in HL7, ObjectScript, Python, and IRIS to support the integration and transformation of health information systems. This role will be instrumental in transitioning an existing IRIS codebase from ObjectScript to Python while maintaining critical interoperability functions for hospital partners.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable maintaining legacy code and building new capabilities, has strong experience with healthcare data exchange, and thrives in a collaborative, agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain health information exchange interfaces and applications.

• Lead the transition of IRIS codebase from ObjectScript to Python.

• Read, interpret, and update legacy ObjectScript code written by other developers.

• Collaborate with Project Managers (SMEs) to translate hospital system capabilities into technical solutions for physician billing integration.

• Participate in daily stand-ups and agile ceremonies, providing status updates and removing blockers.

• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and compliance with healthcare data standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proficiency in HL7, ObjectScript, and Python (equal priority).

• Experience working with IRIS.

• Strong ability to read and write ObjectScript, including legacy code maintenance.

• Experience in healthcare interoperability and system integration.

• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with hospital information systems or physician billing solutions.

• Familiarity with healthcare compliance and security standards.

• Previous experience in agile software development teams.
