Job summary

APLA Health in Los Angeles seeks an HIV/STD Counselor/Medical Assistant to provide patient care under licensed supervision. You will perform HIV/STD counseling, phlebotomy, injections, vitals, and front/back-office tasks while supporting linkage to HIV medical care.

You will conduct risk assessments, prepare rooms, and assist clinicians, ensuring accurate records and referrals. This role emphasizes culturally competent care and adherence to HIPAA and funder requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
• HIV Test Counselor Certification within first 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greet and register patients; assist with forms and appointments.
• Provide pre/post test HIV counseling.
• Conduct HIV/STD risk assessments and counseling.
• Prepare treatment rooms and maintain supplies; assist with injections and phlebotomy.
• Collect specimens, log tests, and maintain testing records.
• Provide rapid HIV testing and counseling; ensure follow-up referrals.
• Maintain equipment logs and assist in discharge planning.
• Follow policy for referrals and documentation to funders.
