Job summary

GMHC in New York seeks an Outreach Coordinator to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate community-based strategies promoting HIV testing and prevention.

The role emphasizes harm reduction, sex-positive wellness, and collaboration with internal teams, advisory groups, and external partners to expand testing, engagement, and linkage to care.

Responsibilities include supervising the Outreach Specialist, managing events, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; BA preferred in Public Health, Social Work, Communications, or related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years in HIV prevention services, community outreach, health education, or related fields.
• Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or outreach teams.
• Strong knowledge of HIV, STIs, PrEP/PEP, harm reduction, and sex-positive health strategies.
• Ability to work late afternoons, evenings, and weekends as required by outreach activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an annual outreach plan with goals and evaluation metrics.
• Coordinate and execute community-based, venue-based, and digital outreach aligned with harm reduction and sex-positive approaches.
• Plan and manage events at LGBTQ+ spaces, nightlife venues, and high-impact community locations to normalize HIV/STI testing and treatment.
• Advise on social media and app-based outreach in collaboration with Communications.
• Engage priority populations via digital platforms to increase testing access.
• Collaborate with GMHC consumers, advisory groups, and external stakeholders to review past efforts and craft new strategies.
• Ensure outreach messaging is inclusive, culturally competent, and accessible to diverse communities.
• Provide HIV counseling and testing as required per policy.
• Ensure linkage to care for those testing positive for HIV, STIs, or HCV.
• Maintain records and reports of outreach activities in compliance with funding requirements.
• Develop and manage outreach budget with Senior Director of Testing and Prevention Services.
• Strengthen partnerships with community organizations to expand impact.
