Job summary

Baptist Health in Jacksonville is seeking an experienced Histotechnologist to join the Histology Lab on a PRN basis across multiple shifts. You will prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination, performing embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control under Pathologist guidance.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years in histology, Medical Technology experience, and a Florida histotechnologist license or eligibility.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years experience in a Histology Lab.
• Medical Technology experience required.
• Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Must be licensed as Histotechnologist in Florida or eligible to obtain license.

Responsibilities

• Perform embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains.
• Maintain tissue processors, microtomes, cryostats and automated stainers; ensure equipment readiness.
• File slides and blocks; manage accessioning and reporting in LIS.
• Handle specimens with the Pathologist and ensure quality control.

Job description

Baptist Health is looking to add an experienced Histotechnologist to join our team working in the Histology Lab at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville. This is a PRN opportunity working various shifts.

This candidate will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by turning tissue samples into microscope slides based on the Pathologist's needs and orders. This Histotechnologist needs to have strong fine motor skills and be incredibly detail orientated. This candidate must have comprehensive knowledge within a Histology lab and at least 1-2 years of experience working in either a research or Histology lab. Medical Technology experience is also required. A Histotechnologist at Baptist prepares tissue samples for microscopy examination by pathologists. Other duties include: specimen collection, tissue processing, staining, microscopy, quality control, and data management.

As a Histotechnologist, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Performing all technical aspects of Histology, including embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains.
• Maintenance of all equipment - tissue processors, microtomes, cryostats, automated stainers and cover slippers.
• Filing of slides and blocks.
• Knowledge of LIS functions for accessioning and reporting.
• Handling all specimens knowledgeably by consulting with the Pathologist

Histotechnologist Experience:

Histotechnologist Licenses and Certifications:

Certified Medical Technologist (MT) Preferred

License note: This candidate must be licensed or be able to obtain a license as a Histotechnologist in the State of Florida before hire.
