Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Histotechnologist to perform basic histotechnology procedures in the Surgical Pathology department, including processing, embedding, cutting, mounting and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation by Pathologists.

The role requires HT- Histotechnician Registered and 2–3 years post-high school training with 2–3 years of experience; 3–6 months on the job experience. Virtual and on-site duties may apply within a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED (Required)
  • HT - Histotechnician Registered - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Two to three years post secondary training with 2-3 years previous experience and 3-6 months on the job

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process specimens with accurate labeling and acceptance checks.
  • Assist Pathologist in frozen section cutting with cryostat operation.
  • Embed surgical, autopsy, and research specimens into paraffin blocks.
  • Cut 2–4 micron tissue sections with a microtome.
  • Stain slides using routine and special stains; prepare solutions as needed.
  • Cover slips with automated instrument and ensure slide accuracy.
  • Perform QC/QA during and after procedures and on instruments.
  • File slides and paraffin blocks; manage archival retrieval.
  • Perform Bone Marrow, Immunohistochemistry and leukemia stains.
  • Carry out research and development of new procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
