Job summary

Inova Health System seeks a Histotechnologist Lead for the Inova Central Lab. This full-time daytime role (Mon-Fri, 6:00 am–2:30 pm) focuses on supervision, specimen processing, and method development to support precise diagnoses.

The candidate brings 4+ years in bench and lead roles, HT/HTL ASCP certification, and a strong background in Cytology staining and quality control. Inova emphasizes professional development and exceptional patient care.

Qualifications

• 60 semester hours of education from an accredited institution, including science/chemistry coursework and medical laboratory technology hours.
• 4 years bench, lead and management experience; 1 year of management experience.
• Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL ASCP) certification.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of surgical specimens.
• Process, prepare, and stain Cytology specimens for diagnosis.
• Develop, test, implement, evaluate, and select new lab techniques and methods.
• Perform quality control and drive quality improvement initiatives.
• Use a microtome to section paraffin blocks and produce high-quality slides.

Inova Central Lab is looking for a dedicated Histotechnologist Lead to join their team! This role is full-time day shift Monday‑Friday, 6 am‑2:30 pm.

Histotechnologist Lead Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for evaluating and solving problems related to the collection and processing of surgical specimens for analysis.
• Processes, prepares, and stains Cytology specimens to enable the pathologist to render a diagnosis.
• Develops, tests, implements, evaluates, and selects new techniques, procedures, instruments and methods in terms of their usefulness and practicality as they relate to the laboratory's personnel, equipment, space and budgetary resources.
• Performs quality control and identifying quality improvement initiatives to ensure optimum laboratory operation.
• Utilizes a microtome to section paraffin blocks and consistently produce high quality slides for routine, special staining and immunohistochemically induced procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
• Years of Experience: 4 years with combined bench, lead and management experience. 1 year of management experience.
• Certifications: Histotechnician (HT), or Histotechnologist (HTL ASCP) certification.
