Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Histology Technician for the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank. The role includes embedding, microtomy, H&E and special stains, IHC, and whole slide imaging for diverse tissue types.

This night-shift, full-time position offers a shift differential, a $2,000 incentive bonus every six months, and a $3,000 sign-on bonus. Excellent growth in a premier academic health system is provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a lab field or related practicum per CLIA'88.
• Combination of 30 biology or chemistry hours with required NAACLS program.
• Transcript must be provided for NAACLS route.
• Military histotechnician training plus degree acceptable.
• 1 year histopathology experience if NAACLS/ military route not completed.
• Ability to work under stress and exercise independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Embed, microtome, perform H&E staining and special stains.
• Conduct immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry as needed.
• Handle a variety of tissue types and surgical specimens.
• Participate in ongoing assignments and process improvement.

Education

Baccalaureate degree in related laboratory field with practicum

Biology and chemistry coursework totaling 30 semester hours

NAACLS histotechnician/ histotechnologist program completion

U.S. military histotechnician training course (50 weeks) + 30 biology/chemistry hours

1 year clinical histopathology experience (if NAACLS path not completed)

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Histology Technician at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community.

This opportunity is:

• Fulltime (1.0FTE or 80hours/2weeks)
• Night shift position with 8-hour shifts. 11:00pm -7:30am Monday-Friday.
• Hourly shift differential paid for all worked hours.
• This position is eligible for a shift incentive bonus of up to $2,000, paid out every 6 months.
• This position is eligible for a Sign on bonus of $3,000.

At Fairview our Histology Technicians work as part of a diverse team to produce high quality slides for microscopic evaluation. Our team members rotate through a variety of responsibilities including embedding, microtomy, routine hematoxylin and eosin staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and whole slide imaging. We serve a diverse patient population including pediatric and transplant patients and work with a variety of tissue types including kidney, liver, prostate, and G.I. biopsies, bone marrows, cell blocks, dermatology specimens, and routine surgical cases. Required Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA’88.
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with combination of 30 semester hours in biology or chemistry AND completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnician or histotechnologist program. Transcript must be provided.
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both). Transcript must be provided.
• Completion of a 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training course and a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both). Transcript must be provided.
• 1 year clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory is required if applicant has not completed a NAACLS accredited histotechnician or histotechnologist program or U.S. military histotechnician training course.
• Demonstrates the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Demonstrates manual dexterity.
• Applicant should possess or be eligible to receive appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification. ASCP - HTL (Histotechnologist) within 1 Year.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year experience of routine work and IHC special stains.
