Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Histology Technician for M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank in Minneapolis. The role involves embedding, microtomy, and a range of stains and imaging to support diagnostic pathology.

The position offers a night shift with 11:00pm–7:30am, full-time hours (80 hours per two weeks), a shift differential, a sign-on bonus of $3,000, and a potential incentive bonus up to $2,000.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in laboratory field or histotechnician program with required practicum.
• 60 semester hours biology and chemistry plus histotechnology training; transcript required.
• 50-week military histotechnician training plus required credits; transcript required.
• 2 years histopathology clinical experience if NAACLS program not completed.
• ASCP HT certification eligibility within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process tissue samples for embedding and sectioning (microtomy).
• Perform H&E staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry.
• Generate and interpret whole slide imaging as part of quality control.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Histology Technician at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community.

This opportunity is:

• Fulltime (1.0FTE or 80hours/2weeks)
• Night shift position with 8-hour shifts. 11:00pm -7:30am Monday-Friday.
• Hourly shift differential paid for all worked hours.
• This position is eligible for a shift incentive bonus of up to $2,000, paid out every 6 months.
• This position is eligible for a Sign on bonus of $3,000.

At Fairview our Histology Technicians work as part of a diverse team to produce high quality slides for microscopic evaluation. Our team members rotate through a variety of responsibilities including embedding, microtomy, routine hematoxylin and eosin staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and whole slide imaging. We serve a diverse patient population including pediatric and transplant patients and work with a variety of tissue types including kidney, liver, prostate, and G.I. biopsies, bone marrows, cell blocks, dermatology specimens, and routine surgical cases. Required Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA’88.
• Associate degree including completion of a histotechnician program from an accredited college/university. Diploma or transcript must be provided. or
• Completion of 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry and completion of a histotechnology training program. Transcript must be provided. or
• Completion of a 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training course and an associate degree or 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry. Transcript must be provided.
• 2 years clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory is required if applicant has not completed a NAACLS accredited histotechnician or histotechnologist program or U.S. military histotechnician training course.
• Applicant should possess or be eligible to receive appropriate Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification. ASCP - HT (Histotechnician) within 1 Year

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year experience as a histology technician in an integrated healthcare environment.
