Relapath is seeking a Histotechnologist for a full-time, direct-hire position in Georgetown, SC. The role involves routine histology, immunohistochemistry, and collaboration with pathologists, with relocation assistance and a signing bonus offered.

The ideal candidate will have histology experience, strong PC skills, and familiarity with LIS systems. Certification through ASCP is preferred, with education ranging from a diploma to a Bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Complete routine Histology including fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and H&E and special stains.
  • Assist pathologist with frozen sections and FNA procedures.
  • Accession pathology specimens and document QC daily.
  • Operate LIS system and maintain patient safety in specimen handling.
  • Set up and monitor automated slide stainer and ensure proper tissue orientation.

Job description

Relapath is currently searching for a Histotechnologist for a full-time, direct-hire opportunity with our healthcare client in Georgetown, SC! This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the region's premiere healthcare providers! Relocation assistance and signing bonus is available!

Position Responsibilities
  • Complete routine Histology to include fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes a complex histologic technique such as immunohistochemistry.
  • Assist pathologist and/or pathologists' assistants with frozen sections and FNA procedures
  • Accession of pathology specimens
  • Daily documentation of QC
  • Work with computers and LIS program
  • Display attention to patient safety goals to include accurate specimen and patient identification
  • Other initiatives/duties as determined by the department
What You Will Do
  • Assign correct accession number to specimens logged into Histology
  • Select the correct processing schedule for each processing run.
  • Incorporate appropriate delay programs for weekend and holiday operations.
  • Notify the senior tech of any discrepancies/ abnormalities concerning the tissue processors that could be resolved with established protocols.
  • Ensure timely TAT for specimens, and recognize tissue structure accurately to orient tissue appropriately in correct embedding mold.
  • Cut slides with the correct orientation and thickness for the tissue type.
  • Select and sequence the chemical solutions required to perform the H&E stain. Perform appropriate solution preparation and maintenance of these solutions to insure consistent staining results.
  • Set up and monitor any automated slide stainer to insure maximum slide throughput
  • Process non-gyn specimens
  • Recognize acceptable vs. unacceptable staining results for special stains or IHC stains, selecting appropriate controls, and including a control section with each patient case
  • Assist pathologist and associated staff with FNA process
Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED AND combination of experience and certification; OR
  • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) from an accredited (regionally or nationally) college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate degree), OR
  • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours (180 quarter hours) accredited (regionally or nationally) college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the bachelor’s degree)
Experience Desired
  • A minimum of 1-year histology lab experience. Preferably in a hospital-based setting Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellence in core value customer skills required
  • Strong PC skills required
  • Strong Analytical skills required
  • EPIC Experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications Desired
  • Histotechnologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology
  • Histotechnician - American Society for Clinical Pathology
