Job description

UPMC offers up to a $15,000 sign-on bonus for experienced Histotechnicians and a $12,000 sign-on bonus for new graduates!

Purpose of the Histotechnician:

To process and prepare various tissue samples using techniques in a clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.
  2. Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures, and work practices.
  3. Progress toward working independently in an advanced staining area.
  4. Perform ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.
  5. Perform QC checks during processing and staining.
  6. Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping, including specialized tissue protocols.
  7. Support the academic mission of the department.
  8. Ensure tissues are embedded and cut according to protocols with proper orientation, complete sections, and no artifacts.
  9. Prepare slides accurately for microtomy, maintaining correct patient identification with barcode labels.
  10. Maintain instruments following quality control and daily maintenance protocols.
