Corewell Health is seeking a Histotechnician (Traveler) in Grand Rapids, MI, for a 3-month contract. Work on onsite schedule, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with required HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent experience. No visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities include slide preparation, staining, embedding, and quality control in a hospital laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• A.A./A.S. degree with histotechnician experience within the last 10 years, OR high school or equivalent with 5 years histotech experience in the last 10 years.
• HT (ASCP) certification, ASCP eligibility, or five years of full-time histotechnician experience.

Responsabilités

• Prepare slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists under supervision.
• Process paperwork for accessioning and reporting.
• Ensure proper tissue processing and embedding/microtomy per protocol.
• Prepare slides for H&E staining and coverslipping (manual or automated).
• Perform special stains under supervisor approval and maintain equipment cleanliness.
• Maintain quality control documentation and safety compliance.

Formation

A.A./A.S. degree + 1 year histotechnician experience (last 10 years)

H.S. education or equivalent + 5 years histotechnician experience (last 10 years)

HT (ASCP) certification / eligibility or 5 years histotech experience

Contract Details

• Position Type: Contract
• Contract Duration: 3 months
• Pay Rate: $65.69 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Key Responsibilities

• Under general supervision and according to policies and procedures, perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s)
• Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
• Ensure proper tissue processing
• Under general supervision, perform embedding and microtomy for select specimen types as defined by Histology Manager/Supervisor
• Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining
• Perform coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
• Under general supervision, perform special stains under approval of/at discretion of Histology Manager/Supervisor
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of non-complex equipment
• Perform filing of finished blocks and slides
• Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, and document all quality control activities
• Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met
• Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations
• Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
• Other duties, as assigned by supervisor

Education Requirements

• A.A. or A.S. degree and one year of experience within the last 10 years, OR H.S. education or equivalent and 5 years full-time acceptable experience as a Histotechnician within the last 10 years
• HT (ASCP) certification, ASCP eligibility, or five years of full-time experience in the last 10 years

Required Experience

• Minimum one year of experience within the last 10 years (with A.A./A.S. degree), OR minimum five years of full-time acceptable experience as a Histotechnician within the last 10 years (with H.S. diploma or equivalent)

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Hospital site that requires additional credentialing
• Overtime expected
