Job summary

Roche is seeking a Histotechnician Specialist to support histology duties, ensuring high-quality tissue embedding, microtomy, staining, and documentation. You will work autonomously in a fast-paced setting with strict quality and safety standards.

You should have an Associate's degree with HT (ASCP) or a Bachelor's with HT/HTL certification and 2–4+ years of histology experience, plus strong knowledge of IHC and Lean/CI principles.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (or 60 credit hours) in laboratory science/medical technology/histology + HT (ASCP) certification, 4 years histology experience
  • Bachelor's degree + HT/HTL (ASCP) certification + 2 years histology experience
  • Solid working knowledge of IHC theory and quality control documentation
  • Strong tissue sectioning skills and operating automated staining platforms in FDA/OSHA environments

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-complexity histology tasks including embedding, microtomy, coverslipping, processing, H&E staining, cryotomy, and grossing of clinical biopsy samples
  • Execute special/advanced staining on automated platforms; perform antibody titers and reagent verifications
  • Maintain calibration and comply with regulatory frameworks (FDA/OSHA/ISO/GMP)
  • Document receipts, storage, and disbursement of clinical materials; assist with non-conformances and corrective actions
  • Participate in Lean/6S activities and support continuous improvement across teams

As a Histotechnician Specialist, you will support the functions of histology in the performance of routine and advanced histotechniques while maintaining a high level of professional expertise. You will work autonomously in a fast-paced environment, applying standard procedures, robust quality control, and safety policies while utilizing Good Documentation Practices.

The Opportunity

You perform high-complexity histology tasks including tissue embedding, microtomy, coverslipping, processing, primary (H&E) staining, cryotomy, cell block preparation, and grossing of clinical biopsy samples.

You execute special and advanced staining techniques on automated platforms, performing antibody titers, dilutions, and reagent lot verification staining.

You strictly adhere to quality standards, maintaining equipment calibration and compliance with regulatory frameworks (OSHA, NMPA, FDA, QSR, ISO, and GMP).

You perform and document transactions regarding the receipt, quarantine, storage, and disbursement of clinical materials, assisting with non-conformance investigations, reworks, and corrective actions.

You drive continuous improvement by participating in 6S activities, following standard work, utilizing Lean tools, and suggesting process improvements to optimize cycle times.

You collaborate across functional teams, assist in training new employees, and maintain prompt, regular, and reliable worksite attendance in an essential operational role.

Who You Are

You hold an Associate's Degree (or 60 credit hours in laboratory science/medical technology/histology) + HT (ASCP) Certification + 4 years of histology experience; OR a Bachelor's Degree + HT/HTL (ASCP) Certification + 2 years of histology experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

You possess solid working knowledge of IHC theory, routine histology, troubleshooting, and quality control documentation.

You demonstrate strong skills in tissue sectioning, automated staining platforms, and operating within a regulated FDA/OSHA environment.

You are highly organized with strong communication skills, possess critical thinking abilities, and thrive in high-volume, fast-paced environments.

You are proficient in standard software tools (Google Suite, word processing, email) and familiar with Lean / Continuous Improvement principles.

You are able to meet physical demands including standing/walking/sitting for 4+ hours daily, lifting 25 lbs, and performing repetitive wrist/hand movements with high visual acuity.

Preferred
  • Experience assisting with the execution of laboratory validations, cross-functional technical activities, and new product transfers.
  • Experience in advanced tissue screening and grossing complex clinical specimens.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Tucson, AZ is $55,800.00 – $103,600.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
