Job summary

Unio Health Partners is seeking a Histotechnician II to prepare tissue specimens for pathologists and researchers. The role requires precision in tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control within a clinical pathology setting.

The position supports the pathology lab operations with routine processing and documentation, contributing to accurate diagnoses and research in a fast-paced environment. On-site schedule typical business hours in Pasadena, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master in a scientific/chemistry field or AS/AA in science/chemistry.
• 5 years of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory with gross, embedding, cutting, staining.
• HT/HTL Histotechnician certification preferred (ASCP).
• Knowledge of CAP/CLIA, CDPH, and state and federal laws applicable to a high-complexity lab.
• Knowledge of histological techniques and staining methods.

Responsibilities

• Accession, gross, processing, embedding, and cutting blocks of pathology specimens.
• Participate in routine histology lab operations daily for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot histology equipment and communicate issues to the lab supervisor.
• Maintain daily records and equipment maintenance logs per CAP/CLIA regulations.
• Check all work for accuracy and quality.
• Data entry for Vital Access Lab information system.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Histotech II is responsible for preparing tissue specimens for examination by pathologists, researchers, and other medical professionals. This role involves precision work in histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control. Histotechnicians play a vital role in assisting in the diagnosis and research of diseases.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 5am - 11am

What you will be doing

• Assume timely and accurate responsibility for the accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding, and cutting blocks of all pathology specimens.
• Assume responsibility for daily participation in the routine operation of the histology laboratory as efficiently and cost‑effectively as possible.
• Assume responsibility for troubleshooting histology equipment and ability to communicate problems to the laboratory supervisor.
• Maintains daily records and equipment maintenance logs as required by CAP/CLIA regulations and policies.
• Checks all work for accuracy and quality.
• Data entry for Vital Access Lab information system.

What you will bring to the team

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in a scientific/chemistry field, or AS/AA in science or chemistry.
• Five years of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory with gross, embedding, cutting, staining.
• Licensing and Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Histotechnician (HT) (HTL) Histotechnician certification (preferred)
• Knowledge of CDPH, CLIA, CAP, and State and Federal laws that apply to the duties of this position in a moderate to high complexity laboratory.
• Knowledge of histological techniques, staining methods, and laboratory equipment.
