The candidate should have an Associate degree in a life science, formal histology training (720 hours), applicable licensure, and 2–4 years of histology experience. On-site schedule Mon-Fri, 5:00 AM-1:30 PM.

Qualifications

• Formal training in Histology from an accredited program (720 hours).
• State licensure, where applicable (CA, FL, and NY require licensing).
• Meet CLIA personnel standard criteria.
• 2-4 years of experience in histology.

Responsibilities

• Embed, cut, stain, and process tissue in the Immunohistochemistry lab.
• Perform accurate gross descriptions on tissue samples.
• Maintain quality control procedures and records.
• Operate instruments per written procedures and troubleshoot issues.
• Meet turnaround time and productivity targets.
• Review results before releasing to LIS and assist in problem resolution.

Description

Summary: The Histotechnician will perform all routine and special paraffin histotechnology duties in a state-of-the-art, CAP-certified pathology laboratory. Under the guidance of a Senior or Lead Histotechnologist, the Histotechnician will provide high-quality diagnostic material within established turnaround times.

Position Responsibilities

• Embed, cut, stain, and perform other tasks required to process tissue in the Immunohistochemistry laboratory.
• Perform accurate gross descriptions on tissue samples.
• Perform quality control procedures established for each method and maintain accurate records.
• Operate all instruments/equipment according to accepted written procedures and recognize and identify instrument/equipment problems.
• Meet acceptable turnaround time and productivity standards for the section.
• Recognize testing errors, discrepancies, or problems and notify appropriate personnel; assist in problem resolution.
• Record, transcribe, and maintain records of patient test results according to protocol.
• Assist other personnel with identifying and analyzing inconsistent and abnormal results.
• Review the accuracy and completeness of results prior to releasing them in the Laboratory Information System.
• Complete routine and STAT testing within acceptable turnaround time guidelines.
