Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in Raritan, NJ. The role involves processing tissues, preparing histology slides, and performing immunohistochemistry to support diagnostic workflows.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate’s degree in Histology (or a HS diploma with relevant experience) and can work in a high-volume laboratory with detailed quality control procedures. Monday–Friday shifts and overtime as needed are expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Histology or HS diploma with 1+ year histology experience.
• Experience with histology and immunohistochemistry preferred.
• Willingness to work in a high-volume histology lab.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam.
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens.
• Section the embedded tissue using a microtome and mount the section on slides.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on FFPE tissue sections.
• Record equipment log data and perform preventive maintenance and QC.

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of histology experience
• 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Pay Range

**Pay Range: $30.00 to $40.00 per hour + 10% differential

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
