Job summary

Labcorp seeks a Histotechnician to join the grossing team in San Diego, CA. The role supports processing tissue for microscopic examination, performing histology techniques and immunohistochemical tests, and ensuring quality control within a high-volume lab.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 11:30pm–8:00am. The position offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities to contribute to patient care through precise laboratory work.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• 2+ years or more prior grossing experience.
• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment.
• Immunohistochemistry experience.
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic exam.
• Prepare stains and reagents needed for special procedures.
• Section embedded tissue with a microtome and mount onto slides.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on FFPE tissue sections.
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures.
• Maintain equipment and document log data; perform preventive maintenance and quality control.

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our grossing team in San Diego, CA.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 11:30pm - 8:00am

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
• 2 years or more prior grossing experience

Preferred Qualification

• Current or prior Labcorp experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Immunohistochemistry experience
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

• Pay Range: $38.00 - $45.00 per hour

Plus 2nd shift differential

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
