Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our Knoxville, TN team. The role supports processing tissue specimens for microscopic analysis and produces high-quality histology slides critical for patient care.

The successful candidate will have an associate degree in Histology or a high school diploma with histology experience, plus immunohistochemistry experience. Monday through Friday, 7:00a–3:30p, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Histology or high school diploma with 1+ year histology experience.
• At least 3 months Immunohistochemistry experience.
• Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam.
• Section embedded tissue using a microtome and mount the section on a microscope slide.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections.
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures.
• Record equipment log data accurately and in a timely manner.
• Prepare stains and reagents needed for special procedures.
• Report accurate and timely test results to support patient care.
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments; perform maintenance as needed.

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in Knoxville, TN.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday (7:00a - 3:30p)

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience
• 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of histology experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
