Job description

Position Summary

Performs preparation of Cytology Non-Gyn and Gyn specimens and executes designated histology tasks, including frozen sections and tissue submitting. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Includes the following:
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Performs all related duties as assigned.
- Prepares Cytology specimens for both NON-GYN and GYN.
- Operates stainer and coverslipper for Cytology slides; possesses knowledge of manual staining and coverslipping as needed.
- Accession Thinprep specimens into the LIS, ensuring all patient information is accurate on requisitions and containers.
- Registers MLW Cytology/Surgical specimens as necessary.
- Follows section protocol for specimen rejection for hospital and MLW cases.
- Downloads and prints barcoded GYN slides.
- Changes and rotates GYN and N-GYN stains per protocol, ensuring reagents are fresh for optimal results.
- Prepares Thinprep specimens for HPV testing, orders in LIS, and delivers to molecular lab.
- Files all Cytology slides.
- Prints Cytology labels for the following day.
- Changes stains and reagents for Cytology FNA per protocol.
- Conducts routine daily maintenance of Cytology instrumentation.
- Assists in Cytology FNA procedures as needed.
- Performs frozen sections as required.
- Downloads and prints cassettes for surgical specimens.
- Submits surgical tissue specimens, verifying patient data against labels, containers, and LIS information; enters block information into Meditech, including cassette details.
- Records daily Quality Control for all instruments, maintaining proper documentation such as temperature logs, cleaning records, and troubleshooting logs.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reagents, ordering as needed.

Education & Experience Requirements
- NYS license or permit required.
- Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred, with one year of relevant hospital experience preferred.

Salary Range: $65,386.31 - $95,090.19 (Full-time)
