Job summary

LabCorp is seeking a Histology Professional to join our team at Ascension Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX. The role involves processing tissue and body fluids for microscopic examination, preparing slides, and performing immunohistochemical tests to deliver quality patient care.

Shifts include Saturdays 4:00am–12:30pm with potential additional Friday or Monday shifts. An associate degree in a chemical/biological science and 3+ years’ embedding and cutting experience are required; ASCP

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
• 3 or more years of experience as a Histotechnician with embedding and cutting experience.
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic exam.
• Prepare stains and reagents for histology procedures and immunohistochemistry.
• Operate and maintain histology equipment and log maintenance.
• Ensure accurate test results and quality control in accordance with SOPs.

LabCorp is seeking a Histology Professional to join our team at Ascension Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX.

Work Schedule: Shift 1, Saturdays, 4:00am to 12:30pm. Friday and Monday shifts may be availble as needed

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
• 3 or more years of experience as a Histotechnician with embedding and cutting experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
