Job summary

Digestive Disease Consultants, powered by One GI, is seeking a Grossing Histotech in Brunswick, OH to support our GI pathology lab operations. The role involves grossing, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and preparation of GI biopsy specimens with strict CLIA compliance.

The ideal candidate has an ASCP eligible HT certification, an associate degree or equivalent credit hours, and prior histology lab experience. Excellent teamwork, accuracy, and adherence to safety rules are essential.

Qualifications

• Meet Qualifications for CLIA High Complexity Testing (§ 493.1489).
• Associate degree in lab science or medical lab tech, or 60 semester hours with required science courses.
• HT(ASCP) certification or registry eligible.
• Previous experience in an anatomic pathology and histology lab.

Responsibilities

• Gross and microtomy processing of GI biopsies and polyp specimens.
• Perform routine and special stains and immunohistochemical stains as trained.
• Accession specimens and perform data entry in the LIS system.
• Maintain equipment, reagents, and cleanliness of the lab area.
• Adhere to CLIA, CAP, OSHA and safety regulations.

Snapshot of Daily Duties:

Hours: Monday through Friday – 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, with the possibility of a flexible schedule!

Responsibilities:

• MUST meet all CLIA requirements for grossing/High Complexity Testing (see must haves). All tissue will be gastrointestinal biopsy and polyp specimens only, with training to be approved by the Lab Director.
• Precisely and accurately perform a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures, including specimen accessioning, grossing (prosecting), tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, performing special stains, operating H&E autostainer, and operating instrumentation for immunohistochemical stains.
• Prepare precision cuts (sections) using a microtome, and stains according to established procedure for routine and special stains.
• Understand proper tissue handling to minimize cross contamination.
• Maintain stock of necessary reagents for all stains and processing utilized in the department.
• Maintain equipment, instruments, and cleanliness of working area.
• Assist with accession specimens, including assigning case numbers to pathology specimens, verifying specimen jars correspond to the pathology requisition.
• Assist in retrieving blocks and slides for review and filing slides and blocks
• Assist in data entry with the lab LIS system.
• Comply with all state, federal, CLIA, CAP, and other professional regulations as well as department rules, polices, and procedural manuals, including adherence to safety regulations.
• Comply with OSHA and regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet all accreditation standards.

The Must Haves:

• Meet Qualifications for CLIA High Complexity Testing Personnel (§ 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications)
• Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or—
• At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either—
• (1) Twenty-four (24) semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or
• (2) Twenty-four (24) semester hours of science courses that include—
• (i) Six (6) semester hours of chemistry
• (ii) Six (6) semester hours of biology; and
• (iii) Twelve (12) semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
• HT(ASCP) certification or registry eligible.
• Previous experience in an anatomic pathology and histology laboratory.
