Job summary

DERMSURGERY ASSOCIATES PA in Bellaire, TX is seeking a qualified Histology Technician to work in our Dermatopathology Lab and with Mohs surgeons, performing routine histology duties and processing frozen sections.

Two positions are available: one full-time and one part-time. The role requires ASCP HT/HTL certification or equivalent, CLIA QA proficiency, and the ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced medical office.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program with ASCP certification or equivalent.
• One year full-time histopathology lab experience within the last 5 years.
• This is not a training position; certification or equivalent education required.

Responsibilities

• Receives, accessions and prepares tissues using histological techniques.
• Performs labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining and cover-slipping.
• Prepares stains and reagents; maintains QA and OSHA compliance.
• Assists with CLIA daily QA testing and proficiency testing.

Description

We are fortifying our team and are in seach of a qualified Histology Technician to work in both our Dermatopathology Lab performing all routine duties in the lab and with our Mohs Surgeons, processing frozen sections. We have 2 positions available, 1 is full time and 1 is part time.

The Full Time position will work with our Mohs Surgeons. The part time position will work in Mohs as well as DermPath.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to:

• Receives, accessions and prepares tissues using accepted histological techniques with accuracy;
• Performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover-slipping using automated equipment as necessary;
• Sections and stains histological specimens;
• Prepares various stains, solutions, and other compounds used in the staining process;
• Implement CLIA recommendations, including, but not limited to daily QA testing and proficiency testing;
• Follows OSHA, Medical Waste, Infection Control and Hazardous Communication protocols, including necessary documentation;
• Follows Laboratory SOP’s and collaborates with Laboratory Director to maintain and update as necessary;
• Assists pathologists within scope of practice;
• Monitors supply inventory and assists in ordering and stocking, properly documents reagents and supply inventories while following laboratory inventory procedures;
• Demonstrates competency operating, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, working with vendors as necessary;
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment and instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications and completes maintenance records;
• Assist with training new technicians as necessary;
• Able to multitask effectively and to work with limited supervision;
• Follows all Associations’ policies and procedures

Requirements

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED :

Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program with certification obtained (HT or HTL certification from the ASCP.)orHS and 60 college/university semester hours, with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and stainingor Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program. Experience may be subsituted for the certification in some cases. This is not a training position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Position is in a fast-paced medical office environment. Frequent contact with employees and outside agencies. Good eyesight correctable to 20/20 and hearing within normal range, manual dexterity and full range motion required. Some bending and stooping required. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and operate required equipment. May require occasional lifting of 25 pounds or more. Requires manual dexterity to fill out heavy paper work, operate photocopy machine and other office equipment.
