Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a Library Service Specialist for the Houston History Research Center to support customer needs, manage archival imaging tasks, and create metadata descriptions for Houston's historic collections. The HHRC in the Julia Ideson Building houses extensive archives and special collections for researchers.

The role involves direct reference duties, outreach, and programming collaboration, with some evening/weekend hours.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree.
No experience is required; substitutions may apply.
Experience with scanning and imaging equipment is preferred.
Experience with Photoshop, Epson scanners, and OneDrive is preferred.
Customer service experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Serve as programming and outreach support for HHRC, including ensuring all program details are completed in a timely manner and maintaining appropriate records and statistics.
Operate archival equipment to capture large numbers of rare and fragile, primarily unbound materials unbound materials.
Monitor the HHRC supply inventory and make adjustments as necessary.
Create metadata descriptions for born digital and scanned items.
Troubleshoot basic problems with hardware, software, or image quality.
Provide reference services in-person and virtually.
May assist with programming and outreach for HHRC and promote.
Perform other duties as assigned and essential to efficient library operation.
