Job summary

NOVA Parks is seeking a Historic Site Attendant to assist with the operation and maintenance of the historic site. The role involves greeting visitors, answering inquiries, providing information, and ensuring guests understand rules and safety measures.

The position supports tours of the grounds and Merchant Mill, helps keep facilities clean, handles routine maintenance, attends staff trainings, and reports safety or security concerns to the Manager on Duty.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.
• Availability to work Mill tour hours, Saturdays and Sundays, April–October, 10:45 AM to 4:15 PM.
• Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
• Ability to learn facility operations, tour mechanics, security procedures, and historic collections stewardship.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, including heat and cold; allergens and insects may be present.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays.
• Maintain safety and security procedures to ensure guest safety.
• Uniform must be purchased and worn as required.

The Historic Site Attendant is responsible for assisting with the operation and/or maintenance of the park.

Pay Rate: $14.75 per hour

Major Duties/Specific Tasks

• Assists with public relations by greeting park visitors, handling inquiries, providing information and assistance, and informing patrons of rules and regulations.


• Assists with tours of the grounds and Merchant Mill.


• Assists with maintenance of facilities by maintaining a clean work area, providing general care of materials and grounds, which may include picking up ground trash, weeding, cleaning of restrooms, and performing manual labor and related duties as assigned.


• Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service training.


• Reports unsafe conditions, matters of theft, or illegal action to the Manager on Duty.


• Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Historic Site Manger and/or Miller.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.


• Ability to work during Mill tour hours, Saturdays and Sundays, April through October, from 10:45 AM to 4:15 PM.


• Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.


• Ability to learn the operation of the facility, tour mechanics, security procedures, and historic collections stewardship.


• Ability to work in all job-related environments, including inclement and varying weather conditions, extreme heat and cold; and to potentially encounter allergens and insects.


• Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays.


• Ability to maintain safety and security procedures to ensure the safety of colleagues and guests.


• Required to purchase and wear standard uniform.
