US Army Corps of Engineers in Portland, Oregon, seeks a Historian to manage projects from planning through completion, ensuring built-environment resources receive full consideration and compliance with NHPA, NEPA, and related laws.
The role leads technical work on historic structures, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports environmental impact processes. Occasional travel is required to attend workshops, meetings, and site visits.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In Addition To Meeting The Basic Requirement Above, To Qualify For This Position You Must Also Meet the Qualification Requirements Listed Below:
One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Identifying, documenting and assessing effects to historic buildingsproperties under the National Historic Preservation Act; 2) Preparing detailed studies of historic buildings and structures including integrity and condition assessment and restoration of historic structures; 3) Managing projects/programs focused on the built environment (including historic structures and buildings) within scope, schedule and budget; and 4) Participating and communicating with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate built-environment and cultural resources concerns into project and planning review processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
