Job summary

The Historian at the State Historical Society will collect oral histories, produce publications, and conduct presentations on the history and culture of Missouri. You will plan, conduct, transcribe, edit, and make interviews available, and develop content for the Missouri Historical Review, Encyclopedia, and exhibits.

Responsibilities include media outreach, teaching workshops, and transcribing collections to digital formats, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
  • A Doctorate degree and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
  • Knowledgeable of digital humanities and current audio and video technologies.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed. Travel will periodically require overnight stays.
  • Excellent visual, writing, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including MS Office and Adobe products.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the history of Missouri and the Midwest.

Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $55,592 - $60,764 per year

Grade: GGS 09E
