Job summary

Danbury Hospital is seeking a Histotechnologist to accurately fix, embed, cut, and stain tissue for pathologist interpretation and diagnosis. The role emphasizes quality technical and customer service for all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Required: Associate Degree
  • Minimum Experience: one year
  • Desired: Histotechnologist certification preferred or eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
  • Performs computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, insuring specimen integrity.
  • Assists Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross Room as needed.
  • Performs routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists, including embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining.
  • Performs special stains in accordance to quality standards.
  • Initiates work procedures and performs all quality control, instrument maintenance & documentation required by accrediting agencies.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service.
  • Maintain a safe environment for one's self and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies & with hospital's & Laboratory's Safety Programs.
  • Assists in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls and disposables.
  • Participates in Laboratory Performance Improvement Program.
  • Teaches and trains new employees, students and Pathology Residents.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
