Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Histology Technologist to join the Dermatology histology team in New Jersey. The role focuses on embedding, sectioning, staining, IHC, and quality control to support Mohs surgery and diagnostic accuracy.

You will collaborate with Mohs surgeons and clinical staff in a fast-paced lab, maintain regulatory standards, and participate in ongoing process improvements to ensure patient safety and high-quality results.

Qualifications

• Certified Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
• 3–5 years histology experience, including Mohs micrographic surgery.
• Proficiency in embedding, sectioning, staining, IHC, and frozen section prep.
• Ability to work autonomously with Mohs physicians and clinical staff.
• Experience performing quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting histology instrumentation.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Commitment to laboratory quality, safety, and compliance.
• Ability to stand up to 8 hours and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Embed, section, stain, perform IHC, and prepare specimens for pathologic examination.
• Assist Mohs surgeons and physicians with frozen section procedures.
• Prepare specimens for dispatch to external labs and manage records.
• Enter procedures into laboratory information systems and document QC.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot histology equipment.
• Contribute to quality, efficiency, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Assist in developing new procedures and evaluating new instrumentation.
• Stay current with histology techniques and safety practices.
