Job summary

Memorial Hospital West in Miramar, FL is seeking a per diem Histology Technologist to prepare histologic slides from human tissue for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist. The position is 1–2 days per week and requires basic lab knowledge and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities include stains and reagents preparation, quality control, immunohistochemistry techniques, specimen accessioning, and serving as a resource to staff.

• Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and evaluates stains, reagents, and solutions necessary for slide preparation following established policies and procedures.
• Instructs and observes student technologists.
• Assists in the validation, optimization, and implementation of new antibodies and special stains.
• Prepares for and participates in inspections and assists the laboratory in meeting all regulatory guidelines.
• Assesses competency of team members.
• Performs quality control, preventative maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of instruments and stains for optimal performance.
• Performs cytology processing, staining and cover slipping using accepted histological techniques.
• Receives, accessions as required, and prepares tissues for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover slipping.
• Performs Florescent Immunohistochemistry techniques.
• May perform Immunohistochemistry, In-Situ hybridizations, and Special Stains procedures as needed.
• Serves as Charge Technologist and evaluates complex samples to determine suitable methods of preparation and staining.
• Serves as a resource to laboratory staff and other clinical staff.

Summary:
