Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Per Diem Histology Technician at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. You will prepare tissue specimens, perform microtomy, and mount slides for microscopic analysis on-site in Newton, MA.

Required are a Bachelor's degree in a related field; HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) preferred. Clinical histology experience of 0–1 year is expected, with attention to PPE and safety, and accurate case tracking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) credentials are preferred.
• 1 year or less of clinical histology experience may be acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Process, embed, and section tissue for slides.
• Embed control tissue and create a control slide library.
• Perform preventive maintenance and QC on microtomes and processors.
• Ensure PPE use and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Maintain accurate case identification and tracking for patient safety.
• Follow hospital policies and safety practices.

Job Summary

Per Diem

Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by processing, performing microtomy, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis.

Essential Functions

• Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for slides.
• Embeds control tissue and cuts control slides to maintain an adequate control library.
• Performs preventative maintenance and quality control procedures, including oiling and cleaning microtomes, cleaning processors, and changing staining solutions.
• Ensures appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to maintain employee safety at all times.
• Maintains case identification and ensures appropriate tracking throughout the entire process to ensure patient safety.
• Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and prepared work area.

• Histotechnician [HT(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred
• Histotechnologist [HTL(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred

Clinical or histology experience 0-1 year required

• Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding, and routine staining.
• Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.
