Job Description

15,000 sign-on bonus available. Eligibility requirements must be met to receive the bonus; these will be discussed with the Recruiter.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Works under supervision to perform routine and special histological procedures on patient specimens. Prepares slides of surgical and post-mortem tissues for pathological diagnosis and assists the pathologist in gross dissection and postmortem examinations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Embeds, sections, accurately labels, and processes tissue sections in accordance with department policies to produce slides for review. (35%)
  2. Operates, calibrates, checks, and maintains instrumentation; recognizes problems with quality control and takes appropriate action. (25%)
  3. Performs routine and special staining procedures. (15%)
  4. Assists the Pathologist in intraoperative consultations, with or without frozen sections; performs frozen sections; sections bones for decalcification. (5%)
  5. Maintains cleanliness of the work area and supplies for efficient operations. (5%)
  6. May assist with collection of anatomic pathology specimens. (5%)
  7. May mentor students and new employees following WPAHS policies. (5%)
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: HT (ASCP) or eligible, to be obtained within one year of hire.

Preferred: One year of clinical histology experience.
