Job Summary and Qualifications
You Will:
- Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, and case organization in accordance with department procedures.
- Assure positive sample, block and slide identification
- Prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer and department procedures and schedule.
- Adhere to department policy regarding performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
You Should Have:
- High School Diploma required
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Minimum one year experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred
- State license where required (CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MT, NV, NY, ND, RI, WV)
- General knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes
- Ability to follow protocols for fixation and routine staining of samples
- Ability to prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist
- Demonstrates good technique in cutting, embedding, orientation and staining of specimens
- General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements
- Excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills; sets a positive example
- Effective and proactive problem solving and decision making skills
