Job description

Histology Technician or MOHS Histotechnician

Full-time, Tues - Fri; 7:00 am - 5:00 pm (10-hour days).

Marshfield Medical Center - Eau Claire provides the community with a 44-bed, full-service hospital offering advanced care including cardiovascular surgery, advanced spine surgery, 24/7 emergency medicine, critical care, inpatient/outpatient oncology care, and more.

Position Overview

Histology Technician: Works under general supervision to assist the pathologist, Mohs surgeon, or designee during the grossing of specimens and tissue samples. Prepares microscopic tissue samples, slides, and performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis. Work may be performed in either a laboratory or clinical setting based on specific practice support needs.

Requirements:

1. Successful completion of an accredited histotechnician program with a background in biology or chemistry, or equivalent on-the-job training.
2. Associate degree in a laboratory science or biology preferred.
3. ASCP certification as a Histology Technician (HT) or Histologist Laboratory Technologist (HTL) within one year of hire.
4. One year of experience in a general histology lab or Mohs laboratory preferred.

Mohs Histotechnician:

Works under the direction of the Mohs Surgeon as part of the dermatological office team. Performs technical activities related to tissue sample processing, assists in patient care, performs laboratory procedures, maintains the laboratory, and handles some medical record documentation.

Requirements:

1. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a science or chemistry-related field; attendance at an approved histology program preferred.
2. Experience in a Mohs lab for at least one year preferred.
3. ASCP Board of Registry certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred.
