Histology Technician I - Pathology

The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a full-time Histology Technician I who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the day-to-day operations of the AP Histology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In addition, he/she will provide technical expertise to ensure proper functioning of the laboratory division for optimal quality, efficiency, productivity, and turn-around-times.

Specific Job-Related Duties:

1. Prepares tissue sections for microscopic examination using techniques including fixation, embedding, cutting, staining tissue slides for diagnostic quality.
2. Prioritizes and accurately performs departmental procedures such as embedding, microtomy, staining (including special stains), decalcification, coverslipping, and labeling.
3. Operates precision equipment and works with reagents and chemicals to visualize tissue abnormalities under a microscope.
4. Prepares and maintains solutions required for procedures.
5. Identifies, labels, and processes tissue according to specifications.
6. Maintains equipment, cleans, changes solutions, monitors temperatures, and replenishes supplies as needed.
7. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.

Shift:

Tuesday through Saturday, 2:30 AM to 11:00 AM

Hourly Range:

The hourly rate range for this position is $21.33 - $41.64. When extending an offer of employment, USC considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education, key skills, internal equity, legal considerations, grant funding, and external market conditions.

Minimum Education:

• Required: Related undergraduate study in Biology or Chemistry
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree
• Combined experience/education may substitute for minimum education

Work Experience:

• Required: 1 year
• Preferred: 2 years

Preferred Experience:

Experience as a Histotechnician in a clinical laboratory.
