Qualifications

• HT requires an Associate degree, 24 semester hours in chemistry/biology or MLT courses with specified distribution, ASCP certification by start date.
• HTL requires a Bachelor’s degree, ASCP certification by start date.
• Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred.
• Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program graduates receive preference.
• Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on‑call, and weekend assignments.
• Two years in this role before applying to other Mayo Clinic positions.
• Ineligible for visa sponsorship; no F‑1 STEM OPT extension.

Responsibilities

• Embed, microtomy, cryotomy, and special staining of tissue specimens.
• Perform immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence techniques.
• Handle fresh and complex specimens with precision and care.
• Support training and onboarding of students and new employees.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and accurate results.
• Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and team‑oriented work environment.
• Adapt to unique demands and workflows of different subspecialty laboratories.
