Job summary

Altasciences in Columbia, MO is seeking a Histology Technician/Histology Technologist at all levels to prepare and process samples for scientific research. You will learn hands-on skills like tissue slicing and staining, maintaining lab equipment, and organizing supplies in a clean, safe environment. Minimal experience?

We offer training to start a career in science and lab work. What you'll do includes trimming, embedding orientation, microtomy, H&E staining, and slide preparation per SOPs.

Qualifications

• Associates degree specializing in science preferred.
• 1+ year laboratory experience and/or training.
• HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment.
• Basic computer software skills, MS Office Suite required.
• Proficiency in English including speaking, reading, and writing.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment.
• Perform trimming of fixed tissues.
• Performs paraffin tissue processing and embedding orientation.
• Uses microtomy to prepare routine slides per SOPs/protocols.
• Performs H&E staining and coverslipping of slides.
• Troubleshoots equipment and maintains workflow with minimal interruption.
• Disposes hazardous chemicals and maintains records.
• Orders warehouse supplies and updates inventory records.
• Participates in additional training for tissue trimming and bone decalcification.

We offer training, making this a great role for someone eager to start a career in science and lab work.To perform this job successfully, the individual is required to perform, but not limited to the preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation; identification of tissue samples for proper trimming techniques; embedding orientation; microtomy skills; performance routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining procedures; knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used for the preparation of tissue samples and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.**What You'll Do Here** • Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment • Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment • Perform trimming of fixed tissuesPerforms paraffin tissue processing • Identifies required tissue sample orientation and performs paraffin embedding procedures • Uses microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols • Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides • Troubleshoots equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum. • Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements • Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records • Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records • Additional training pertaining to tissue trimming and bone decalcification • Additional training pertaining to special necropsy procedures **What You Need to Succeed** • Associates degree specializing in science preferred • 1+ year laboratory experience and/or training • HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment • Basic computer software skills, MS Office Suite required • Proficiency in English including speaking, reading, and writing • Basic math skills for the preparation of reagents • Ability to troubleshoot basic laboratory equipment • Continual GLP training • Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples • Microtomy skills • Routine hematoxylin and eosin staining**What We Offer**Altasciences offers a wide variety of benefits to help our employees live healthy and fulfilling lives both at and outside of work. **Altasciences' Benefits Package Includes*** Health/Dental/Vision Insurance Plans* 401(k)/RRSP with Employer Match* Paid Vacation and Holidays* Paid Sick and Bereavement Leave* Employee Assistance & Telehealth Programs* Telework when applicable**Altasciences' Incentive Programs Include*** Training & Development Programs* Employee Referral Bonus* Annual Performance Reviews#LI-TN1
