Position Summary: This position reports to the Histology Team Lead. Prepares tissue for microscopic examination by a Pathologist according to established protocols. In doing so, processes specimens by freezing and cutting tissue sections, selecting optimal tissue sections and floating them onto glass slides and staining or treating the tissue with reagents so as to reveal specific structural details under microscopic analysis. Position is responsible for preparing and maintaining solutions and reagents as needed, according to established protocols. Shows attention to detail, knowledge of chemical rationale of the staining procedures performed, and the skills required to recognize and remedy technical difficulties encountered with the processing of tissue samples. This position has access to confidential patient information. It does not have direct patient care or access to funds.
Associate Degree Major/Area of Concentration: science related field
Bachelor's Degree from a CLSI (clinical and laboratory standards institute) accredited Histotechnology program.
De-escalation training within 6 months. Certification by Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathology is required within 18 months of employment.
