Job description

Job Description

Under direct supervision, prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.

Responsibilities
  • Processes, embeds, cuts, and stains surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
  • Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation and staining meets laboratory requirements.
  • Prioritizes test procedures and completes procedures in a timely manner.
  • Maintains proper records of all tests completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Performs instrument maintenance utilizing established protocols.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment.
  • Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
Experience
  • One (1) year experience is required.
License and Certification
  • Eligible for certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
