Job summary

Community Health Network is seeking a Histology Technician to gross and prepare tissues and biopsy specimens for histologic processing. You will prepare surgical slides for pathologist review, ensuring accuracy and turnaround times.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years histology experience, an associate degree with biology/chemistry credits, and eligibility for HT(ASCP) certification. Commitment to HIPAA and CLIA/CAP standards is essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years histology experience or Mohs experience required.
  • Associate degree with 12 biology/chemistry credits (included or added to degree).
  • Eligible for HT(ASCP) certification and 60 college credits to perform grossing per CLIA.
  • Detail oriented and able to maintain high standards.
  • Good attendance and punctuality; strong teamwork and customer service.

Responsibilities

The Histology Technician grosses and prepares tissues and biopsy specimens for Histological processing. Prepares surgical slides for review by the Pathologist. The standard of ethical and professional performance must be consistent with established medical laboratory practices.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

Applicants for this position should be able to collaborate with others in a team setting, have excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude toward problem-solving.

3+ years: Three years histology and/or Mohs experience required.
  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate degree. (Required)
  • Eligible for HT(ASCP) certification,and 60 college credits to perform grossing according to CLIA regulations
  • Ability to be detail oriented
  • Ability to display and maintain high standards
  • Ability to show responsibility to the job and consideration of coworkers by exhibiting good attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to use customer service skills to provide an exceptional experience
  • Ability to work in cooperation with others Ability to work with others in the delivery of laboratory medicine
  • Able to differentiate dermatology tissues for appropriate embedding, cryotomy and microtomy
  • Demonstrates good problem solving skills
  • Experience in histology procedures including grossing, tissue processing, cryotomy, microtomy, and slide staining (to include all special and immunohistochemical stain procedures)
  • HIPPA compliant.
  • Knowledge of CLIA/CAP standards
  • Knowledge of EMR Professionalism and good communication skills with coworkers, providers, and patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability in handling confidential information as it relates to physicians, employees, patients, and external customer groups
