Job summary

GI Alliance in Texas Bedford seeks a Histotechnician/HTL to perform embedding, microtomy and staining, with filing responsibilities in a busy histology lab.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and an associate degree in science for high-complexity tasks, plus the ability to adhere to CLIA 88 requirements and maintain accurate logs and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in science or equivalent science education required for Histology Technicians performing gross examination of specimens and other high complexity testing.
  • Education and training sufficient to support CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. This reflects the scope of practice in scheduled responsibilities and pay grade meeting all HCFA-CLIA 88 “testing personnel” criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Provide backup for Lab Assistant duties.
  • Gross, embed, cut, and stain tissue according to designated procedures.
  • Perform all routine and specialized histology tissue slide preparation and staining procedures.
  • Complete assigned workload within prescribed time limits.
  • Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining.
  • Maintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testing.
  • Distribute slides to pathologists.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation.
  • Ensure all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Purpose

The Histotechnician/HTL's main responsibility is to perform all functions in the histology lab, including embedding, microtomy, staining, and filing.

Physical Requirements

Equipment Operated

This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily.

Work Environment

This job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions. Local travel in the region may be required to another location as needed.
